Asian Democracy Advocates Call for the Observance of Peaceful and Transparent Elections
17 November 2013
On the historical occasion of the Nepal Constituent Assembly (CA) Elections to be held on 19 November 2013, the Asia Democracy Network (ADN) expresses its deep solidarity with the people struggling for genuine democracy and calls for the observance of peaceful and transparent elections.
As a newly established platform among democracy advocates and human rights defenders dedicated to the strengthening of democracy and human rights in Asia, ADN was officially launched in Seoul, South Korea last 21-22 October 2013, with a steering committee of 11 regional and sub-regional organizations, which include the Asian Network for Free Elections (ANFREL) and Forum for Human Rights and Development (FORUM-ASIA) and People’s SAARC, with the objective of promoting the progress of democracy.
ADN is in support of the objectives of the Nepal CA Elections to elect a constituent assembly to write a new constitution leading the country of Nepal to democracy.
ADN, especially many members of ANFREL are currently on the ground monitoring the elections to ensure that a free, fair and equal election is taking place as these aspects are essential in good and democratic governance.
ADN remains deeply concerned about the reported disruptions and violence emerging from political parties and groups in efforts to hinder this legitimate and democratic process. ADN is opposed to such violence during the election process.
ADN strongly urges each and every voter to exercise their legitimate right to choose their own representatives during this historical moment.
