February 4, 2014 – Since the Founding Assembly in October 2013, the Asia Democracy Network (ADN) has received much interest and attention from the international community. This is a clear indication that the promotion of democracy in Asia is very much a priority and the international community is starting to listen in. To continue this momentum, the ADN Steering Committee met in February to solidify the governance of the network and more importantly, deliberate on ADN’s focus for 2014.
At the first steering committee meeting held in Singapore, ADN welcomed the election of three co-conveners as the focal point to facilitate the communications among steering committee members and to lead the set forth campaigns for 2014. It was also decided that Dr. Hyungsik Shin will be the named secretary general of the ADN secretariat that will be based in Seoul Korea on behalf of the Korea Democracy Network (KDN).
ADN plans to start off with initiatives focusing on specific countries to promote awareness of their democracy struggles, as well as make anti-corruption as a priority issue, and engage in inter-governmental meetings.
