ADN congratulates the Nobel Peace Prize

ADN congratulates the Tunisian National Dialogue Quartet

The Asia Democracy Network (ADN) congratulates the Tunisian National Dialogue Quartet for receiving the 2015 Nobel Peace Prize. Their work has proved to be exceptional in the North Africa and Middle East (MENA) region in transitioning to a democracy in a peaceful manner. According to the Norwegian Nobel Committee, the Nobel Peace Prize goes to the Quartet for their “decisive contribution to the building of a pluralistic democracy in Tunisia.”

The Quartet is a coalition group of four key civil society organizations in Tunisia: the Tunisian General Labour Union, the Tunisian Confederation of Industry, Trade and Handicrafts, the Tunisian Human Rights League, and the Tunisian Order of Lawyers. The Tunisian civil society coalition showed that dialogue beyond ideological disagreements is vital and is the only way to solve the problem in Tunisia, followed by the democratic uprising in 2010-2011.

The ADN, as a civil society coalition for democracy in Asia, is proud of the Quartet for the Tunisian civil society’s contribution to a democratic transition in Tunisia. We do hope and believe that the Nobel Peace Prize will positively contribute the furthering of democracy not only in Tunisia but also entire MENA region and beyond.

We stand in solidarity with civil society organizations and the people of Tunisia who have played its significant role in advancing the democratization in a peaceful way.
