Celebrating Citizen Action: Reimagining Democracy, Rights, and Inclusion for Today’s World
We’re excited to announce the next edition of International Civil Society Week (ICSW) – the leading global gathering of civil society actors, changemakers, and activists – taking place from 1–5 November 2025 in Bangkok, Thailand.
Co-hosted by CIVICUS: World Alliance for Citizen Participation and the Asia Democracy Network, ICSW 2025 will bring together voices from around the world to celebrate the power of citizen action and explore how we can reimagine democracy, rights, and inclusion in a rapidly changing world.
At a time when civic freedoms are under threat – with civil society facing serious restrictions in 116 of 198 countries and territories – ICSW 2025 will pay tribute to the movements, activists, and communities showing incredible resilience, creativity, and courage in defending human rights and civic space.
This year’s theme, “Celebrating Citizen Action: Reimagining Democracy, Rights, and Inclusion for Today’s World,” calls us to:
- Reflect on the progress and power of grassroots activism
- Address the shrinking space for civic engagement
- Reimagine inclusive and participatory democracies that are accessible, relevant, and resilient
- Forge new alliances beyond traditional civil society – engaging youth, educators, the private sector, and everyday citizens
In a world facing urgent and complex challenges, we must dream bigger. Let’s come together to build bold, innovative, and inclusive solutions that shape a better, more just future for everyone.
