City of Ulaanbaatar initiative in combating corruption and improving transparency
Transparent Ulaanbaatar 2014: Anti-Corruption Forum
Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia – From October 6-7, 2014, the city of Ulaanbaatar opened the Transparent Ulaanbaatar 2014: Anti-Corruption Forum was open in attendance of over 200 guests from 16 countries from the city and national government, civil society, academia and the business sector. The first day of the conference was opened with a keynote speech by Dr. Larry Diamond, senior fellow at the Standford University’s Hoover Institute and the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies. .
A series of session was carried out throughout the forum addressing lessons learned, shared experiences and outline the progress of anti-corruption initiatives in Mongolia and in the region. Also, through the open discussion among a variety of stakeholders in a broad spectrum of sectors from Mongolia and abroad, an exchange of innovative solutions in addressing corruption and improving transparency was made.
The two day forum closed with the Ulaanbaatar City Mayor Bat-Uul Erdene signing the Ulaanbaatar Declaration Against Corruption reaffirming Ulaanbaatar’s commitment to maintaining anti-corruption measures and improving transparency.
The forum was hosted by the Capital City Governor and Mayor of Ulaanbaatar HE Bat-Uul Erdene and the International Republican Institute and supported by the Asia Democracy Network, Center for International and Private Enterprise, Independent Authority Against Corruption in Mongolia, National Endowment for Democracy, Solidarity Center, Taiwan Foundation for Democracy and Transparency International.
