8th Annual Advanced Graduate Workshop on Poverty, Development and Globalization Open

Dear Colleagues,

I am pleased to announce a call for student nominations for the 8th
Annual Advanced Graduate Workshop (AGW) on Poverty, Development and
Globalization. As in the past two years it is organized jointly by
the Azim Premji University, the Institute for New Economic Thinking
(INET) and Columbia University’s Initiative for Policy Dialogue
(IPD). This small interdisciplinary workshop, which I will direct,
will be held in Bangalore, India from January 3-17, 2015.  Many of
you have nominated students in the past for the AGW.

The goal of the workshop is to bring together graduate students in
development studies at a sufficiently advanced stage of their
dissertation work to be able to discuss and receive feedback on their
research.  . There are two distinct parts: a series of lectures given
by leading scholars and practitioners will deal with a range of
economic, political and social issues pertaining to development and
poverty Secondly,  students will refine their research and
presentation skills within assigned small groups under the guidance
of faculty leaders in preparation for a culminating workshop-wide
presentation of their research.

. We welcome applications from all fields in the social sciences;
however, students should have some background in economics or
familiarity with quantitative techniques. The AGW provides a unique
opportunity for students to receive constructive advice and feedback
on their dissertation presentations. Accepted candidates will join a
distinguished rank of alumni and forge invaluable connections with
top flight lecturers and peers, all committed to the study of the
myriad issues confronting developing economies.

We expect to accept approximately 25 students for the 2015 workshop.
Students will reside at Bangalore’s WIPRO Learning Centre for the
two week duration. Room, board and airfare will be fully covered for
all participants.

As in the past, I cordially invite you or your department to nominate
1-2 students to submit an application.. Nominators should send the
names and emails of their nominees to ApplyAGW@gmail.com. Please be
sure to send on the names of only those who have accepted the
nomination. IPD will then be in touch with those students directly
with application instructions.

For those who may inquire with you, we do also allow
self-nomination/application and guidelines for those wishing to do so
will be posted on the IPD website at www.policydialogue.org.

Applications received after July 20th will not be considered.
