FORUM-ASIA and CIVICUS: World Alliance for Citizen Participation will be organizing an event to launch this year’s ‘People Power Under Attack’ report from the CIVICUS Monitor, an online platform tracking civic space globally.

In last year’s report, it showed that nearly six in ten countries are seriously restricting people’s fundamental freedoms of association, peaceful assembly and expression. In 2018, according to the ‘People Power Under Attack 2018’, 94 percent of people in Asia lived in countries deemed closed, repressive or obstructed when it comes to civic space. Out of the 23 countries counted in Asia, four were deemed closed, six repressive, and ten obstructed.

Join CIVICUS and FORUM-ASIA for the launch of the global report and a discussion on the ratings and trends in Asia on Wednesday 4 December from 9:30-11:30 at the FCCT in Bangkok, Thailand.
