The International NGO Forum on Indonesian Development (INFID), National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM), Executive Office of the President (KSP), the Provincial Government of East Java and the District Government of Jember, in cooperation with National Commission on Violence against Women (Komnas Perempuan), Wahid Foundation, Migrant Care, General Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu), Raoul Wallenberg Institute (RWI), Asia Democracy Network (ADN) and others will hold the 6th Human Rights Festival in Jember, East Java under the theme of “Social Justice and Human Rights Based Local Development through Cultural Approach.” It will be held on November 19 – November 21, 2019, at Jember, Republic of Indonesia.

Asia Democracy Network will take part in this event to coordinate with international delegates to be part of a special session on “Regional Networking on Human Rights Cities and SDGs” in coordination with INFID, Komnas HAM, UCLG ASPAC and RWI. And it will be officiated by the President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo and targets to be attended by 2000 people, which are delegates from 100 district/city governments, 30 ministries/institutions, 50 civil society organizations, 10 universities, 20 schools, 20 media, 10 private companies, as well as 30 representatives of friendly countries, UN Bodies, ASEAN and representatives of Human Rights Cities from Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia and America.

The festival will be mainly focused on the four major themes: (1) Social Justice And Human Rights-Based Local Development With Cultural Approach, (2) Global Human Rights Cities Movement And The Struggle For An International Instrument On Local Government And Human Rights, (3) Child Participation In The Enjoyment Of Human Rights, And (4) The Role Of Local Government In Strengthening Tolerance, Diversity And Peace. In addition to these, there are several sub-themes such as: right to vote as a human rights, local government and prevention of intolerance and extremism, peaceful election and prevention of hoaxes and disinformation on social media.
